How to Make Good Decisions How do we choose between two or more options that seem equally appealing on the surface? Decision-making usually involves a mixture of intuition and rational thinking; critical factors, including personal biases and blind spots, are often  unconscious , which makes decision-making hard to fully operationalize, or get a handle on. However, there are steps to ensure that people make consistently excellent choices, including gathering as much information as possible, considering all the possible alternatives, as well as their attendant benefits and costs, and taking the time to sleep on weightier decisions. Sometimes this can affect those who suffer from anxiety. The Art of Decision-Making When making a decision, we form opinions and choose actions via mental processes which are influenced by biases, reason, emotions, and memories. The simple act of deciding supports the notion that we have  free will . We weigh the benefits and costs of our choice, and then we

Lori Watt vinyl  Every year when December rolls around, I get super excited. Not just because Christmas is around the corner, but because it’s time to think about my New Years Resolutions. And I am big with those. So every year I grab my notebook and take time to write down my goals and … nothing. Until last year I simply wrote down my list and never actually got around to really accomplish any of them. I was one of those   80% who’s New Years resolutions lasted less than three months. I took these questions and started to break it down, simplify, and create action.   I then asked myself the more tangible questions: What does it take to get there? Is it cutting out a negative aspect of your life? Is it educating myself? Prioritizing specific aspects of my life? Owning up to my actions? I’ve been actively trying to reroute and rewire my habits for the greater good of my future self. This doesn’t mean not to enjoy – but it means to stay disciplined and weigh out my priorities for the sake of my dreams. I got to a point a

There are many ways to work on self-development and self-improvement, but setting specific goals for personal growth can increase your likelihood of success. When life serves up obstacles, as it so often does, having a goal that you revisit frequently helps you reset, recommit, and recharge. It also gives you the  motivation  and accountability to stay focused and follow through on your plans. Setting goals can sometimes feel like a  daunting task . That’s why it’s helpful to have a roadmap to guide you along the way. I use a journal to monitor how far you have achieved your goals. Goal-Setting Theory   Like most theories in psychology, goal-setting theory started with the ideas from Dr. Edwin A. Locke, in his article,  Toward a Theory of Task Motivation and Incentives . In it, he explained the need for clear and specific goals that are challenging and monitored with regular feedback and progress. But having a life coaching to encourage you to achieve goals helps. Locke, along with D
