HOW TO PRACTICE GRATITUDE WHEN IT’S NOT WORKING FOR YOU

Do you know what’s hard sometimes?   Practicing gratitude. Those gratitude lists that everyone tells you to write aren’t always easy for me and possibly you too.  And not in the sense that I don’t have anything to be grateful for in my life because I absolutely do. It’s just that gratitude sometimes gets overwhelming because it feels like I’m forcing myself to write a list when I feel not 100%.  Maybe you are like me, your mind tends to focus on the things that are going wrong. Or you think you’re a terrible person because you don’t feel grateful for the things you SHOULD be grateful for – things like family, friends, food, a roof over your head, etc. I often stare at a blank page thinking to myself, “ I should probably write that I’m grateful for [fill in the blank] ”, but sometimes it just feels ingenuine and forced. So what are we to do?  Well, if you also find it difficult to practice gratitude on a regular basis, I have a few simple gratitude tips that mi...

Keeping a gratitude journal

Image
Keeping a gratitude journal  Often when we hear about expressing gratitude, we think of the people and things that we’re grateful for. Our friends, family, partners, home, car, food, etc. Of course it really does help put things into perspective even when you are depressed. When you think of your life without those things what comes up for you? BUT I would say to go even deeper when it comes to gratitude. So grab a journal!  Think about your accomplishments what did you achieve that day, how you handled your day was it positive or negative? How your own values came into play and why, which strengths you’re grateful for,  what you’re proud of , what you’re excited about, and what’s good in your life right now. These details help us fight depression.  Keeping journal of the little and big things that make you feel grateful works in the same way as keeping a note of the little things you have done to help others it creates a 'happiness bank'. https://theawesom...
