What is a spiritual practice?

Introduction

This is about finding a spiritual practice that works for you.

Not every practice works for everyone and there are so many in today’s world, let’s explore and see what we can find.

The practice of religion (spiritual practice) can enable us to feel positive emotions.

In a fast-paced world where we are confronted by stress and uncertainty around every corner, research illustrates that simple practices rooted in cultures and religion can offer some respite: as connection and belonging. From gatherings for Shabbat dinners in Jewish traditions with a focus on gratitude and unity, to Seva in Sikhism where selfless service fosters humility, rituals have the power to be more than just spiritual – they can enhance mental well-being by making us feel positive emotions.

Positive emotions are essential for keeping and maintaining our mental health (Sun and colleagues, 2024). Time after time, research shows that positive emotions improve relationships, reduce stress, and enhance life satisfaction. However, positive emotions increase well-being not only at the individual level; they also promote greater collective well-being, for example, by enabling prosocial actions (Kushlev and colleagues, 2022).

Positive emotions connect cultural practices with well-being through a process known as a positive spiral: a psychology concept detailing how the (emotional) consequences of an individual’s actions can affect their initial behaviors (Fredrickson, 2001). Feeling good (being thankful for blessings) and doing good (paying it forward to a charity) thus share a reciprocal relationship. The frequency of experiencing positive emotions matters the most, more so than intensity or longevity. Small feelings of positivity experienced multiple times over can transform not just individuals but entire communities.

Many actions that help start a cascade of positive emotions are often part of spiritual teachings, from working at a soup kitchen with your local parish to donating a portion of your recent paycheck towards a mosque fund. Beyond religious and spiritual significance, such practices can deeply affect well-being by fostering positive emotions, including gratitude and compassion.

Finding the practice

There so many types of spiritual practices like christian, buddhism, universal lessons. I believe in the universe, christian faith & buddha as they all have great practices.

Your practice

Sit on the floor start cross legged if you need a pillow or yoga block then grab it. For your meditation you are going to connect with your spiritual guide set timer for 10 minutes,  breathe deeply through nose and exhale do that 4 times then say a mantra whatever you choose. If you are Christian you can connect with God by meditating on the word in the Bible scripture be still and know Christ is there. Whatever practice you choose it will be for you and your faith in the spiritual world. Each practice will have a great affect on your life and experiences. Like it has done for my mother. Having a spiritual practice Is needed so we can be in line with the universal energy. My friend it's important to you to release what negative energy you are holding, you have that 10 minutes day or night. Stress is our enemy And biggest problem or fear of our past causes anxiety. Be grateful for what others do spiritually, God of this universe is glorious.  Hope this helps you with stress in your life.

Check out this from Gabby Burnstien that most people go for.

Just remember you don’t have to go to a church to have faith in something.

Blessings
