Motivation- what drives you?

 Motivation - what drives you?

Are you running towards or away from something? When I talk about motivation, often people see it as a battle to get it done. Feeling like you need to have hardcore self control and this wild persistence to get something completed. You need to work out what is motivating and driving you. Then achieving things will become enjoyable instead of painful. All your willpower because the journey is either enjoyable or not. The entire journey is fulfilling because every step of the way is getting you closer to what is exciting or what matters. It’s where even a small step in the journey can feel like an accomplishment. Take losing weight for example. Instead of running away from the body and weight that you are unhappy with, try and pick a fitness goal that works for you. Changing your attitude towards it makes a difference! Fear can get in the way and hold you down. Ask yourself the following questions

Do you do any of the following?

  •    Not celebrate your friends' wins?

  • Judge people when they try and take a leap of faith and do something new

  • Stop yourself from doing something out of fear of being judged

  • Listen to negative comments and instantly take them on

  • Feel that if someone else wins, it means you failed.

If you said yes to any of these it means that a lot of your motivation has been rooted in fear. The good news is you can change that! Often you try something new and get criticized or laughed at, you stop trying. If you switch your focus from running away from the discomfort and from the negative people to run towards your passion, that’s what I did. Go towards those who see the benefit in what you are doing, then your motivation will change, and you will feel capable of achieving it. Most of the people that you may consider your inspirations or mentors, they went through their setbacks, but it’s the people who have pushed past all of them who have got to the top of their game. You decide if you run away from the setbacks or you run towards your purpose.
