My experience of surgery
Not long ago on 21 October 2026 I experienced something I never thought I’d ever have. And that was surgery for a condition that was causing me serious risks of cancer. I was scared of the unknown disease. Everything came down to the mindset staying confident in the surgeon who was amazing.
Thyroid gland half was removed so some of it was okay even though it was tested to be sure again. However, that day I got called up for surgery and my prayer was answered. The next day I was walking in the theatre and lay down on a table for the doctor and his team. They were fantastic and they kept me as calm as they possibly could, as we know anxiety doesn’t help the situation. I saw Dr Harper he was fantastic and he said “are you ready Lori” and my response was “as ready as I’ll ever buddy” he smiled and prepared. The nurses etc were very good. They kept me calm and took me an hour to be stable and stay asleep with full anesthesia. I remember looking at the devices and ceiling thinking this is real god this is my opportunity to trust you these people on my body. When I woke up it took an hour. I'm sure I had a dream. I don't know what it was about though. As I came around I was ready to be moved to the wards they said well done you got through it. And when I saw Dr Harper I was able to speak which was amazing. He was smiling knowing he did his best to make sure that my voice was there. He had a sense of humour about the sexy voice grinning. I am so grateful to Dr Harper for his amazing work on me. I thanked him and gave me a second chance at life as I was fighting against thyroid cancer. I kept putting my trust in god praying for healing and the compassion of others was amazing. Praise god that I didn’t have to wait anymore because prayers got answered. I put my faith and trust in god as I was afraid of the unknown. But, when we trust god he does answer our prayers and he wanted us to be able to live the life he promised me. After surgery I have not had a single seizure since. Praise the lord for his faithfulness. Ever since the surgery the healing process is doing really well. I won’t be forgetting this experience because it was life changing.
When you have an experience like this be mindful of how you dealing with it use cbt to help you through it don’t hang around negative people pressuring you.
